About SimonL
Simon Latimer picked up his first camera in 1978 when he was 7 – a Kodak 127 Instamatic which introduced him to the world of photography and he then played with various compact cameras for a few years. He moved to 35mm SLR’s when he was 12, learning on a Russian Zenith 11. It was completely manual, with no internal metering. This primitive camera proved to be the perfect learning instrument and Simon grew confident and competent in making his own judgement and learning to control the light and its effects on the films he used.
In due course the Zenith gave way to a higher quality Nikon and a course of evening classes helped to refine his already present camera and darkroom skills further. These classes however, also opened up a new world – that of studio and people photography. It sowed a seed which Simon has been passionate about ever since.
Simon uses both digital and film in equal measure. He still processes all his own films and prints all the Limited Edition prints individually to ensure that the customer has a truly unique photograph, created at all stages by Simon to retain his original vision into the final work.
Simon balances the demands of photography with those of a full time job and
young family. The requests for Simons skills are ever increasing, such is
his appeal to models, agencies and individuals alike all looking for an
original photographer with time-proven skills and vision to bring a unique
slant to their project, portfolio or commision
Simon travels worldwide with his employment and photographs as much as he can when away, taking the opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills and cultures.
Simon lives in Bahrain with his wife and son.
